Secondary Program

The secondary program provides an exciting, innovative and vibrant learning environment and opportunities. The most profound learning occurs when there is a healthy relationship between teacher and student. We focus our attention on relationships between all members of the Secondary School community and value those relationships in achieving quality outcomes for students.

The curriculum aims to engage students and foster their interest in major key learning areas.  Adopting a mixed curriculum that takes the best of Singapore's Mathematics, Science and Mandarin program, together with an innovative and solid Australian and Cambridge approved curriculum, students are equipped with a solid foundation, which will successfully prepares them for the Year 9 and 10 Cambridge IGCSE Program.

Year 7 and 8 are a time for learning and development.  It is very important for students to practise and gain skills in all key learning areas. Our broad and comprehensive curriculum ensures each student develops skills and knowledge in all the learning areas and helps students to begin identifying where their interests and strengths lie.  We carefully plan and design our curriculum to ensure that students will receive a strong educational foundation and possess a competitive edge to meet the challenges of the IGCSE examination in Year 9 and 10.

IGCSE Program (Year 9 & 10)

The 2-year program offers a great moment of learning, discovery and joy for every student. Year 9 and 10 students benefit from a broad and balanced program delivered through the Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) curriculum. Our School is committed to providing a quality education and this has been proven by the stellar achievements of our IGCSE students.

The Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds, attracting almost 500,000 entries from 144 different countries every year.  It is taught as a two-year course beginning in Year 9 and culminating in external examinations in Year 10. In some subjects there is a choice between core and extended curricula, making the IGCSE suitable for a wide range of abilities. Students can enter examinations at the most appropriate level for them, a level which can differ for different subjects. The core curriculum is based on an overview of the subject and is suitable for students expected to achieve grades C to G. The extended curriculum is more challenging and designed for those expected to achieve grades A* to C. This is in line with the school’s focus on differentiation and students can choose either stream according to their ability.  Admission to universities in Thailand requires a C or better grade in at least 5 subjects.

Our secondary program offers comprehensive science and mathematics studies using "Extend Curriculum" that engage students to study science as seperate IGCSE courses, as opposed to the Co-ordinated Science program. With this arrangement of greater depth of content coverage, it will enable students to achieve the highest possible grade in the IGCSE assessment, which is an "A*" as opposed to a "C".  Our students have the option of taking all 3 separate IGCSE sciences, namely Chemistry, Physics and Biology.  Note that eligibility in taking the three seperate sciences will be a based on the student's performance in Year 7 and 8.

The IGCSE offers a flexible course of study that gives candidates the freedom to choose subjects that are right for them, whilst providing them with a broad knowledge base and life-long skills. It develops learner knowledge, understanding, and skills in the subject content, knowledge application, intellectual enquiry, flexibility and responsiveness to change, influencing outcomes, and cultural awareness.

At St. Mark's all student study a compulsory subjects of English and Mathematics, plus a number of popular elective subjects. Students normally take in total between 5 to 7 subjects during the course of study. Subjects that have options for extended curriculum are stipulated in the subject options below.

In Business Studies, students are given opportunities to learn from real-life experiences through a variety of business studies project, working on a small businesses of their own. Through this experience, students develop crucial skills in working collaboratively with one another, making calculated decisions, applying language mathematics, science, artys and technology skills to real-life. Through this learning opportunity, students discover for themselves the purpose of learning.

A Level Program (Year 11 & 12)

Cambridge International A Level is an internationally recognised academic standards and in some circumstances, will be used alongside with Cambridge IGCSE, as part of the academic selection process for entry into top universities around the world. The A Level examinations is a formal assessment of a student’s ability in each of the subjects they have studied. Cambridge International A Level is typically a two-year course, where students study from the age of 16 to 18.   Cambridge International AS Level is typically one year, where students take their examination at the end of Year 11.

Students normally take in total between 3 to 4 'A' Level subjects during the course of study.

The grade range for A Level examinations is between A* - G.

Cambridge International AS and A Level develops learners’ knowledge, understanding and skills in:
  • In-depth subject content
  • Independent thinking
  • Applying knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations
  • Handling and evaluating different types of information source
  • Thinking logically and presenting ordered and coherent arguments
